The new coronavirus of China (Covid-19) spreading at a rapid speed and you should also know that more than 84000 people are already infected by this virus. More than 2900 deaths have been reported until now. This virus is now spreading internationally and it has already reached more than 37 countries.

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that are found in animals and till now the doctors have found seven types of coronavirus including the new one. Now it has made the jump to the humans but most of them can only affect you with cold-like symptoms. There are two main and dangerous viruses which are known as Middle East respiratory syndrome and severe acute respiratory syndrome. These viruses are really severe because they have already killed more than 1500 people since 2002. They are very powerful and they are also spreading rapidly all over the world. The new virus which is spreading now has been officially named as Covid-19. 20% of the confirmed cases are severe and critical. The current death rate is about 2% and it is slowly increasing as well. This is a lower fertility rate than the fatality rate of Middle East respiratory syndrome and severe acute respiratory syndrome which are 30% and 10% respectively.

How Covid-19 outbreak started? 

It is believed that the source of the coronavirus is a wet market in Southern China which sold both live and dead animals including a variety of fishes and birds. People of China believe that the virus started from there because it is very difficult to maintain healthy hygiene standards in such places. The virus can easily jump from animals to humans and the hygiene standards cannot be improved because the animals are butchered and kept on the site only. The virus moved from animals to humans and then it spread rapidly. The animal source has not been identified till today but the original animal from where the virus started is thought to be bats. They are not sold in the Wuhan market but they might have infected live animals or chickens which are sold there.

It is very difficult to say that this disease will increase or not. But it has already reached various countries and it is affecting many more people there. The number of cases is decreasing in China but the virus is spreading fast in the rest of the world and the number of cases is climbing there.

Symptoms of coronavirus 

The initial symptoms of this virus include fever, tiredness, dry cough and the person also feels that he is not well from inside. Shortness of breath and a high temperature may also be observed. The person infected with the virus will observe such symptoms between 2 to 10 days after contracting with the virus and it can be up to 24 days as well. There is one good unconfirmed evidence that this virus can be spread by asymptomatic people which means that it is carried by the people who are not yet sick. This can definitely make the virus difficult to control.

When should you go for medical help? 

If you have traveled to China and its neighboring countries in the last 14 days or you met someone who visited those places recently you should definitely take the medical help. Firstly, you should stop going out if you are not feeling well. You need to stay inside your house even if you do not have symptoms but you have returned recently from China and its other neighboring countries. All these things mean that you need to stay at home and you can also write your work school or other public areas. If it is possible then you should avoid public transport and taxis as well. If you want to take medicines or anything else you can ask your friends and family rather than going to the shops directly. Try to avoid visitors as much as possible.

Treatment

Doctors have not found the specific treatment for this virus but you can definitely take care of yourself in the best way to avoid this problem.

How can you protect yourself and how is this new virus transmitting?

The basic and very important hygiene is hand hygiene and it is a very important line of defense. This new virus can easily spread through droplets when a person is coughing or sneezing. The droplets land on the surfaces and the hands of other people can also come in contact with those surfaces. People can easily catch the virus if they are going to touch their infected hands to their nose, eyes or mouth. This is the reason that the most important thing you need to do to protect yourself is to keep your hands clean and you need to watch them frequently with soap and water and you can also use a hand sanitizer. You need to avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes without washing your hands. We have also mentioned view other tips by which you will be able to you take care of yourself:

It is not compulsory that the virus is going to transmit through your hands and nose only. The doctors have also confirmed that this virus is contained in other body secretions which include feces, blood, and urine as well. But hand and surface hygiene is the most important key.
